World Leisure Expo Worldwide Marketing Wins Support From Dr. Hans D’orville

Dr. Hans d’Orville, UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Strategic Planning, attended the Paris Promotion Campaign of 2011 World Leisure Expo on April 11th and gave high praise to the Expo, which is to be held from September 17th to November 18th in Hangzhou China.

Dr. Hans congratulated the 2011 World Leisure Expo Committee (“the Committee”) on the success of the London Campaign London Campaign on April 7th, which also drew attention from the British tourism industry and local media. He expressed his appreciation of the Expo and extolled the Committee’s innovative solutions and achievements in promoting cultural diversity as well as communication and collaboration between regions and nations via such a grand gathering.

The 2011 World Leisure Expo is a large international event that aims to popularize advanced leisure concepts, services and products that stimulate life improvements from the perspective of leisure culture. Rich and varied, the expo hosts a multitude of activities, namely, exhibitions, forums, leisure experience and other events, attracting all kinds of guests from all around the world, including tourists, exhibiting cities and enterprises, leisure scholars and others.

In 2006, the first World Leisure Expo invited 88 cities from 26 countries to open pavilions, among which cities such as Nimes, Leeds, Berlin, Oviedo, Hague and Pisa were included. Statistics from the Committee showed that over 34 million people participated in activities. The economic benefits were obvious: 233 business events (conferences, exhibitions, etc.) in total brought Hangzhou, the host city, over GBP 620 million in foreign capital, while trade turnover reached about GBP1.3billion.

Mr. Shi Yongsheng, Deputy Director of the Committee restated the profound influence that the Expo exerts on peoples’ changing lifestyles. He noted that a palpable experience of leisure in such a setting could never be experienced elsewhere.

“New concepts of leisure spring up everywhere at every moment; but you can’t duplicate the experience of the 2011 World Leisure Expo. We keep updating people’s vision towards the leisure industry, economy and culture. This year, many new items have been brought in, such as the International Leisure Carnival and the International Concert and Beer Festival.”

According to Mr. Shi, the Committee will operate a marketing campaign in Germany next and spread the advanced concepts of leisure culture to a wider audience.

World Leisure Expo Debuts With Worldwide Marketing Campaign Kicking-off In London

The World Leisure Expo Committee recently launched a worldwide marketing campaign for the 2011 World Leisure Expo in London. Mr. Shi Yongsheng, Deputy Director of the 2011 World Leisure Expo Committee, addressed excited attendees during a press conference at the Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square on April 7th. The kick-off event was held to promote the campaign and to allow Mr. Shi to send his personal invitation to citizens from around the world. Also in attendance was World Leisure Organisation Chairman Derek Casey. Mr. Casey confirmed his attendance at the 2011 World Leisure Expo in Hangzhou.

Mr. Shi introduced the Expo that will be held from September 17 to November 18, 2011, in Hangzhou, China. Promoted under the theme “Leisure Enhancing the Quality of Life,” the eagerly anticipated international Expo will cover a multitude of leisure activities, while also providing a full-on leisure experience. The organisers have invited 50 cities and 50 leisure-based enterprises to share their culture and experiences on how best to drive the leisure industry’s development.

When asked about why London was chosen as the first stop in their worldwide campaign, Mr. Shi expressed his excitement, noting that it was because the Great Exhibition of 1851 in London marked the beginning of a new era in world fairs. Drawing on the connection, Mr. Shi hopes that the 2011 World Leisure Expo will blaze a trail for the prosperity of the world’s leisure industry, changing people’s lives for the better.

Mr. Shi said, “We aim to foster collaboration and communication among cities from home and abroad, and we are dedicated to providing a platform to present the latest developments in the leisure industry. We are determined to advocate the academic research of leisure, and ultimately, we believe, help transform the industry by helping to shape new modes of leisure.”

This new cooperation is actually the second time the Hangzhou Municipal Government and World Leisure Organisation have cooperated with each other. In 2006, they successfully held the the 1st World Leisure Expo, which lasted six months and welcomed 88 cities from 26 countries. 34.22 million people attended the Expo, while 233 business events brought Hangzhou over GBP620 million in foreign capital and a trade turnover of about GBP1.3 billion.

Next on the 2011 World Leisure Expo campaign trail will be France and Germany.
